Advolly is Marches of Time’s “Lady Paramount”

Marches of Time has another speaker eager to entertain attendees at the inaugural weekend.

With her talk ‘The Rise and March of Archery: An Elite Pastime 1780 – 1900’, Advolly Richmond takes a light hearted look at the very social aspect of archery on the estates of the aristocracy along the Welsh Marches.

Advolly Richmond is a plant, garden and social historian based in Shropshire. She is a trustee of the Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens, a Champion for the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew and a member of the Garden Media Guild. She lectures on a variety of subjects from the 16th century through to the early 20th century. Advolly is currently writing a book on the social history of plants as well as researching the life and achievements of Victorian botanist and plant collector the Rev. Thomas Birch Freeman (1809 – 1890). Advolly contributes garden history features on BBC`s Gardener’s World and presents plant history profiles for BBC radio 4’s Gardeners Question Time. She will also be teaching the History of Italian renaissance gardens at the University of Oxford Department of Continuing Education from April 2024.
