First Speakers Announced
Marches of Time is delighted to announce the first of its speakers for the inaugural weekend in September 2023:
Gareth Williams is Curator and Head of Learning to the Weston Park Foundation. Gifted to the British nation in 1986, this former home of the Earls of Bradford is now owned by a charity focussing on education through conservation and public access to the estate, house and its internationally important art collection.
Gareth is a respected writer and historian, who’s latest books include ‘The Country Houses of Shropshire’ (Boydell & Brewer 2021) and ‘Weston Park: The House, The Families and The Influence’ (Boydell & Brewer 2022).
Dr. Simon Elliott is an award winning and best selling author, archaeologist, historian and broadcaster. A specialist on Roman Britain (and particularly the military presence of the Romans), his latest books include ‘Roman Britain’s Missing Legion’, ‘Legacy of Rome’, 'Pertinax: The Son of a Slave Who Became Roman Emperor' (Greenhill Books 2020) and 'Romans at War' (Casemate Publishing 2020).
As well as being co-director of an ongoing Roman Villa Excavation, Simon is a Trustee of the Council for British Archaeology, an Ambassador for Museum of London Archaeology and an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Kent.
